The mission for the City of Roanoke Rapids is to provide planned, efficient, acceptable services for the citizens in a cost-effective manner and to encourage balanced growth to provide better employment and increased revenues.

 The Office of the City Clerk is responsible for attending all meetings of the City Council and recording official actions; schedules citizens for appearance before City Council; provides information concerning Council activities; prepares the “Roanoke Rapids City Page” for inclusion in the Roanoke Rapids Daily Herald each Sunday; acts as custodian of all legal documents pertaining to the City; prepares and publishes City ordinances, resolutions and notices of public hearings as required by law; assists in the preparation of the Council agenda; codifies the Code of Ordinances; administers oaths of office; provides administrative assistance to the City Manager, Mayor and City Council; coordinates City Council appointments to their advisory boards and committees and serves as the point-of-contact for citizens wishing to serve.

The City Manager's office is responsible for guiding and implementing City Council policy and providing overall management of municipal operations. This office includes the City Clerk position, which is responsible for keeping and maintaining all official records.
Retired Wilson City Manager Edward A. Wyatt is serving as Interim City Manager until a new permanent manager is appointed.
